Let’s make some money….

December 21, 2009 by

My last few posts have talked about ‘feeding the soul’ and the not the ‘make money’ element of this blog. In this post, I am going to chat about creating a mind set to create some wealth online (or make some money, cash, dosh, swag, moolah…  as us ‘common folk’ would say ; – ) ?

However you dress it up, wouldn’t it be nice to just sit back in your villa in the south of France or your Aspen retreat and press a few buttons on a computer for a couple of hours a day and know that the cash is rolling in on auto pilot? Well, fantasy can become reality with just a little bit of knowledge seeking and targeted work. As the old saying goes ‘you get what you focus on’ and if you focus on trivia or nothing of real value (phyisically, spiritually, mentally or emotionally), you will not reap results.

Although most people have good intentions, they never seem to focus on the end result and soon lose interest, giving up very easily. So, how do we prepare to take over the world or at least create the world that we desire. Lets look at some practical solutions to keep us on track and help us through the day. Click the link below to continue reading this article:

1) Discover your real values. This may sound like an obvious action, but is it as obvious as it sounds. Many people think they know what they want and what their values are. However, most of the time, what they really value is not what their conscious mind is telling them they value. Look a little deeper below the surface and you will find your true values. For example, consciously, you may be obsessed with trying to obtain lots of money and material wealth. However, what you may really value is the total freedom you perceive that you will get, once you are rich. Therefore, freedom is what you really value in this instance.

2) Create a clear vision. Setting goals and visualizing yourself completing your goals is very important. The old salesman trick of placing a picture of a desired object, like a luxury car, on his work desk, may seem a little shallow. However, by  doing this, the salesman is drumming in to his conscious and subconscious mind that he must do whatever is legally necessary to obtain his dream. In other words, he must relentlessly sell as much product as he can to qualify for his mega bonus at the end of the year. If your goal is not material based, look for creative ways to bring yourself nearer your goals/visions.

3) Get Out of the Comfort Zone. Leading on from the last topic. Once you have created your vision, propel yourself towards it. For example, join a new business network or several new business networks, until you find one thats right for you. Join some social networking websites. Write a blog or some article on something you are knowledgeable about. If you are in sales, pick up the phone and call new and existing customers and ask for their business. Again, think of creative ways to get out of your comfort zone. Shock the system!

4) Prioritize your work load. Don’t get bogged down with unnecessary time and spirit draining activities, whether in your business or personal life. Use a funnel method to plan your day, week, month, year. I recommend using planner pad (http://www.plannerpads.com) or a franklin covey planner (http://www.franklincovey.com). Both of the aforementioned planner systems cover work/life balance planning (i.e. Make time for your personal/spiritual life as well as your business commitments). Despite being a techno guy, I prefer to use the old fashion written word because it drums in to your subconscious mind better that electronic gadgets. Please note, I am not getting paid to recommend anyone. These are just personal recommendations of products I have actually used. Although I have all the mod con electronic gagets (palms, i-phone etc), I still prefer to hand write my thoughts, projects, appointments etc. I find that it imprints in the mind much better, when you physically write.

5) Break your workload in to bite sized chunks. We can all be overwhelmed with the amount of information we have to consume these days and the amount of things we are expected to do, both professionally and personally. To make things easier, break these actions down in to bite sized chunks. This concept is very much related to the Kaisen method of working/thinking that I highlighted in a previous post. First things first, a little at a time. Rome wasn’t built in a day. I could continue with the cliches, but I am sure you get the idea ; -)

Finally, take some time to chill out and reflect. Meditate or just have a cup of coffee, whatever takes your fancy. Be good to yourself.
